It was founded in 2012 as a merger between the Sam Rainsy Party and Human Rights Party. The Cambodia Democratic Movement of National Rescue, the transitional body ahead of the merger, has established working groups to unite the two groups and is in the process of creating a joint national platform and common party policies. The logo for the CNRP is the rising sun. The party believes in the strengthening of freedom and human rights, institution of free and fair elections, and defending Cambodia's "national integrity".
